Over the last couple of days, Hope has developed what we now believe to be a minor case of the "snurgles." At first, we thought she might have picked up a cold - - but she lacked typical symptoms, save for becoming noticeably snuffly and gurgly - - a bit stuffed up. Consulting the baby books and online sources uncovered the following:

Baby 'snurgles'

Young babies tend to build up more mucous in their respiratory tract, and as they breathe in and out, this rattles on their chest and can make a gurgling sound as they inhale through their nose and throat.

Despite the noise and the apparent pulling on their chest, babies do not find it hard to breathe when this happens and it shouldn't affect ease of breastfeeding or drinking from a bottle. It should clear up by about three months and can usually be clearly distinguished from a cold as there is no runny nose, loss of appetite or raised temperature.

Sounds like our Hope! We have a pediatric appointment this week, so we will have a chance to confirm. She doesn't seem at all bothered by it, much like her hiccups, which have thankfully become less frequent. We'll keep an eye on this of course, in case something else develops. But in the meantime, snurgles it is!
