First Flight

Hope had her first flight of any kind last week, for our trip back East to the Goldschuller wedding and to visit with the RI family, primarily with Gaga and Elisa in Bristol. She did quite well on the long stretch from Portland to D.C., making friends with Penny the stewardess, who went on to introduce her to most of the economy class cabin. We had a reasonable layover in Washington before a short hop up to Providence. Although there was a hiccup on that last leg with a ticketing agent who simply wasn't paying attention and could have cost us our seats, everyone arrived safely and in decent spirits. Heading back again tomorrow - wish us luck!

Return flight update: a much less pleasant experience for both parents and passengers...Hope was unwilling (or perhaps unable) to nap, and got progressively more fussy. The hop from Providence to DC was pretty good - she sat happily in her car seat, reading The Big Red Barn and flirting with the gentleman sitting behind her mama.

It was the leg from DC to Portland that gave us trouble - she had been up since 10am (and our flight was 5:30) and was fighting the sandman. Finally, around 8pm EST she collapsed (as did we) and was out for about the last two hours home. I got to thinking while we were on the plane...they really should design baby rooms into the bigger jets - with a decent changing platform and a low light option for getting baby to sleep. We had tried walking her to sleep, but the cabin lights in the service galley are really bright (and walking the aisle provides way too much distraction). Something to think about, folks at Boeing!
