We are just back from our long Memorial Day (+1) weekend down in Southern Oregon, spending nights at the Lithia Springs Resort just on the edge of Ashland. We spent Sunday exploring Ashland proper - mostly Lithia Park and its surrounding neighborhood, featuring the Elizabethan Theatre, a faithful open air recreation of The Globe. Monday morning/early afternoon, we took sleepy Jacksonville by storm, spending time on the municipal playground and chowing on fancy burgers and hot dogs. They've done a nice job repurposing and preserving "Old West" buildings in the compact historic downtown area. You'll see Cowboy Zane showing off his new cow and hippo figurines, and some stopping to smell the flowers (and ding the bell on the historic trolley).
The kids did pretty well in the car and on the road, generally. We slept well all together in our English Cottage, which served us well for naps and evening relaxation with its separate king bedroom. Our room also featured a giant jetted tub, filled directly from Lithia Hot Springs - very mineral-y! My sterling silver ring tarnished from exposure, as promised in the welcome booklet.
The main challenge on this trip was managing potty time, since Hope is still uneasy in public toilets. And of course the last hour or two of both drives, when *all* of us were antsy to reach our destination. We've discovered 5+ hours in a car is a little beyond our collective range - for the near future, we'll stick to under 3. Enjoy! xo NBH&Z
