Labor Day with Uncle Alex

Uncle Alex came to visit us from Brooklyn for the Labor Day weekend!

Though the weather overall was unseasonably cool, we made hay while the sun shone with our first ever yard sale, a spontaneous entry into the annual Richmond neighborhood event. We netted about $150, finally unloading some old furniture that had been gathering dust while we debated how to part with it.

Hope was a big hit "not for sale" in her cardboard box - Alex's suggestion for simultaneously containing her and putting her on display. She was certainly a big draw, helping to move our $1 VHS tapes and .50c CDs, placed strategically in front of her for browseability whilst making conversation.

One of Hope's favorite activities with Alex (of course) involved singing and dancing. He came armed with a bevy of Hope-propriate songs, and regaled us with them all while swinging and swaying with Hope. It was cute, and she was smiling and laughing and "singing" along. Also pictured: Alex and Hope enjoying a breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes and Pirate's Booty.

Other outings included a lovely lunch at Fenouil in the Pearl District followed by 2 hrs at REI (thank you patient Uncle Alex) to purchase a (bike) Chariot and a new commuter for B's belated birthday. On Labor Day itself, we met up with the Portland family at Aunt Martha's for a BBQ. All-in-all a great holiday weekend, and a visit that leaves us hungry for more.
