2010 is off and running. Looking at photos from even two months ago, it's bound to be a year of changes.
Hope is on a big friend kick. She is starting to get a sense of relative time - you can tell her something is happening today vs. tomorrow and she seems to understand. If something is days away, though, it's best not to mention it...we have been anticipating a playdate with Rose (Friday) all week.
Zane continues to impress with his physical development. He is very quick now with linking rolls, combining them with swift rotations to make his goal. Hope has decided it's actually fun to play ball with him now that he will seek out something rolled within his sights. She likes to point out that she is sharing. "Hope share Zane! See ball Zane play it! ...Zane's too little! *swipe*" and that's the end of that...
Tooth #2 made its debut over the weekend, right alongside #1. It's still very much a snaggletooth situation, but pretty soon we'll have a matched set. Sleep has improved the past few nights, so we might get a reprieve until the next growth spurt.
Hope is excited to start music class again next week. She'll have a new teacher, since Teacher Caroline is expecting a baby this month and taking a break. Having heard anecdotes from friends about their children being concerned when faced with new teachers, I've prepared Hope well in advance. If prompted, she will explain "Caroline had [a] baby!" which she will then invite to "come [to] Hope's house [and] play hitar."
Finally, it seems our car needs a new set of tires. A spontaneous trip to OMSI on Tuesday was quickly re-routed to our auto repair shop down the street when I noticed one tire showing the "danger" white line indicating it could burst any moment, and then rounded the vehicle to see another tire nearly flat. Hope and Zane took their field trip in stride - Zane stayed in his bucket waiting patiently while our spare was installed and the tire pumped up, and Hope spent the time dancing to oldies like Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy Wid It" and learning about Elvis from Jonnie the friendly service rep. On our way out, Hope got a tour "backstage" to see some cars being serviced -- a nice stand-in for the science part of our plans. All was not lost, and as a bonus, we were home in time for lunch.
