Manzanita Beach Trip

When Grammy & Pappy came to visit this month, we decided to go to the coast together. We found an amazing rental house in Manzanita that was perfectly suited to families with young children - with a fully equipped kitchen, fenced yard, swingset/slide, sun room with toys and books, and a twin bunk room right off the first floor master.

It was Hope's first night in a big girl bed, so we brought along a surprise Olivia doll and tucked her into the sheets to be discovered by Hope (It totally worked! "Olivia's Room" was a great success.) Hope only fell off once, around midnight (*thud*), exclaiming "I okay!" while struggling to get out from underneath the bed, where she had slid after hitting the pile of pillows we had wisely stacked on the floor beside her. Other nights would have been more restful if not for Zane's bout of the croup - thank goodness for the nearby Manzanita Grocery and some quick work by Grammy to help reduce the sudden fever. Note to self: always bring medicine kit on vacation.

The weather has not been kind to us, generally, this Spring. We did get one fantastically sunny and warm day over the beach weekend and made the most of it - beach in the morning, backyard at Noon, Nehalem Bay State Park before naptime. So much so that we all got a little sunburnt...again, poor Zane...I did reapply sunscreen in the afternoon but much of it rubbed off onto my shirt while carrying him in the Ergo. :\

On the balance we lived very comfortably in Susan's Beach House, despite a comedy of maintenance errors that included running toilets, clogged drains, a missing piece in the dishwasher, an overactive ice maker, and almost smoking ourselves out by closing instead of opening the fireplace damper... We are thrilled to have found such a great place for future vacations in our favorite Pacific beach town!
