August Weekend with Grandparents "B"

The Floridians were back this past week for their short but action-packed August visit - part of our continuing effort to inundate them with Portland's fairer-weather charms and reverse their rather soggy view of life in the Rose City.

Grandma B arrived Wednesday, a few days ahead of Grandpa, who then administered his last exam of the summer semester and graded papers in flight Friday and most mornings.

We kicked off Bryan's birthday weekend on Friday night with a rare double date courtesy of Aunt Martha. We had a fantastic dinner at Park Kitchen, selecting from special menus with "Happy Birthday" printed on them just for us! Our seats were just inside the roll-up door and afforded a great view of the Twilight Criterium, which we caught the end of after delicious dessert.

Saturday was spent much in the usual way - playing with Hope, a trip to the Farmer's Market - but we took advantage of a free concert by the Portland Festival Symphony at Grant Park just 5 minutes away. We packed a picnic dinner, and had a relaxing time amidst hundreds of other happy Portland families taking in the beautiful music.

Sunday was Bryan's birthday! Grandma enjoyed her first proper massage at a nearby spa, while the boys went wine shopping. Then with the grandparents home to babysit, B and I joined Gordo and Suzanne at a Plate & Pitchfork dinner at Smith's Berry Barn. It was a gorgeous night, and we had a wonderful time.

As always, the trip was too short, but we look forward to the next visit, when Grandpa forecasts Hope will be walking and talking. We hope that's not the case, as it already seems she's growing up too soon. Next up: Aunty Ellen later this week! Cheers - NB&H
